Publications

SSA has an active publication wing, and our publications are widely distributed through Sarasavi, Godage, MD Gunasena,  Rasakatha.lk, SLBooks, KBooks, Barefoot Bookshop, Minsara Poth Madura, Vidarshana Publishers, Expographic Books Pvt. Limited, and the University of Colombo Bookshop. In addition to many book publications, SSA publishes several magazines and periodicals to further the academic discourse in the social sciences and humanities.

 

POLITY

Polity is the English language left magazine published by SSA since 2003. It has been online since 2021 to expand its reach and stimulate wider and more diverse interactions with its content and concerns. The magazine aims to advance democratic consciousness, gender equality, state reform, and social justice in Sri Lanka, while interested in South Asia and the World. Polity welcomes scholarly essays based on research, long-form books, drama, and film reviews, analytical commentaries on contemporary issues, think pieces, works-in-progress, interviews, field notes, photo-essays, and creative writing and illustrations including short stories, poems, and graphic art. Polity currently has two issues in June and December and is edited by Chulani Kodikara, Hasini Lecamwasam, and Balasingham Skanthakumar.

 

PRAVADA

Pravadha is the Sinhala language left magazine published by SSA since 2003. Pravadha publishes on issues of politics, political economy, history, women, ethnicity, sexualities, religion, labour studies, agrarian relations, nationalisms, violence, environment, and much more. Currently two print issues (June and December) appear each year. Pravadha is presently edited by Praveen Tilakaratne and Harshini Fernando.
