Our Work

SSA is a social research institute that works to investigate the ways in which social change shapes multiple realities of communities in Sri Lanka and South Asia. At SSA we believe that freedom requires certain economic and social preconditions be met, without which it cannot be fully realized or enjoyed. With an equitable vision of society in mind, SSA provides a platform to scholars and practitioners to engage in research and advocacy not only on issues pertaining to human rights and freedom but also on broader socio-economic justice. Currently, we have four main thematic concentrations namely democracy, political economy, gender and youth which are designed with this focus in mind. We conduct research, workshops, seminars and trainings along these lines as well as publish books, magazines, periodicals and working papers through our publication wing.
