Description
‘Forced Migration and Changing Local Political Economies’ brings attention to a study that was a part of a larger project on war-induced forced migration in Sri Lanka. The study highlighted in this book brings two interesting perspectives of IDPs-Hosts relations present in Vavuniya and Puttalam. The author focuses on the different experiences of displaced and local Tamil people in Vavuniya and the conditions of the Muslim Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who were expelled from the North in October 1990 by the LTTE in Puttalam. This study captures the socio-economic conditions of the displaced, the relations between the displaced and the local communities (hosts), the significant changes in the local political economies, the impact on social conflict and development that have occurred as a result of the forced migrations.
