‘Periodization in Sri Lankan History’ is a book that attempts to redefine the existing categories of periodization used in popular textbooks on Sri Lankan history. The book looks at early attempts of periodization of Sri Lankan history, problems with the existing periodization and the historians of the Post-Colonial Era. It also provides a fresh outlook on the periods of chiefdoms, early state, power sharing state, early medieval state, multiple kingdoms, besieged kingdoms, colonial state and the post-colonial state, from the perspective of the author, challenging the reader to think beyond the mundane understanding of local history.
