Categories: ,

Sri Lanka hardly has an academic publishing industry where there are critical scholarly texts exploring sports from a sociological, political economic, historical or cultural analysis perspective. The essays put together in this volume, is an attempt to generate an interest among scholars to work on the sociology, politics, political economy and culture that are embedded in the public culture of sports. The analyses and arguments developed in these essays emphasize that sports is not a domain of innocence as is often popularly understood and described but one that needs to be studied as a social and cultural process.
